About 12 years ago I had an abcess in my left breast that was caused by a milk duct being clogged. It was lanced and had to heal from the inside out. I have had a lump in that breast since then, but about four months ago my nipple started inverting and I knew something was wrong I put off going to the Dr. because of work. I finally went on Dec. 21, 2011. He sent me for a mammogram on the following day, my 52nd birthday. They did a mammo and sonogram. On the 23rd I was sent for an incisional biopsy. On the following Thursday I got the news that it was cancer and was scheduled for an appointment with a surgeon. He reccommended that I have a "simple" mastectomy with sintenal node biopsy because of the size of the tumor. On Jan. 11, 2012, I was admitted to the hospital for surgery. Everything went as well as could be expected. The surgeon said that he got all of the tumorous cancer but had to wait on the lymph node biopsy results. They came back negative , which is a big relief! But I was sent to see an oncologist because of the size of the tumor, 5 cm with infiltration. She wants to do chemo, radiation and estrogen blocking therapy. I am still waiting to see what will happen. I don't know what I will do about this. She says that it still could have spread even though the lymph nodes were negative and that there is a chance that it will come back in the chest wall without treatment.
