Had double masectomy 11 days ago. My chest is so tight it's uncomfortable. I start back to work in 6 days. What can I do to make it feel more comfortable by the time I go back to work.

Perhaps you'll need to take some more time off depending on what kind of work you do as to me 2/1/2 weeks for a bilateral mastectomy doesn't seem like much time to heal.

Teri, PLEASE contact your surgeon TODAY. Not knowing what is causing the tightness we can't tell you what to do. Do not think you are bothering the office, call them, now. That is what they are there for. You may have some swelling that shouldn't be there or you might have to do some stretching exercises. Only your doctor can tell you. Take care, Sharon

I contacted the surgeon and her solution was a pretty simple one but it really has seemed to help. She told me to take a normal ace bandage and just wrap the area where my breast were and the expanders are. The bandage puts pressure pushing in instead of pushing out and it relieves the sensation of it being so tight and the feeling you skin is going to tear open.

So glad you got to talk to your doctor and found a solution. Sounds like it was really uncomfortable. Hang in there. Take care, please keep in touch with us. Sharon

I'm doing pretty good. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my double mastectomy. I started back to work yesterday. My arms and chest muscles were REALLY sore yesterday. My arms are going a lot better today but the muscle right under my left expander is really sore and when I use my left arm it really bothers me. I have found if I press on It, it doesn't hurt as bad. I walk around like I'm saying the pledge of allegiance all day at work. HaHa I go back to my chemo oncologist next Thursday the 1oth to find out when I start chemo. I'm assuming it will be the following week. Then right after 8 rounds of chemo I will have 28 rounds of radiation on my right arm lymph nodes because they found microscopic cancer cells in 2 of them. So chemo starts next and I'm trying to prepare myself for that. It's a little nerve racking. :-)

Today is my 2nd week after my lumpectomy. Tomorrow I will go back to see my surgeon for follow up and next Tuesday I going to my oenology to see when is my 1st chemo. I got a Triple negative breast cancer. I'm nervous too but I take it 1 day at a time. You shouldn't carry heavy boxes or anything more than 5 lbs. Keep in touch.
