I had a lumpectomy with a sentinel node biopsy on November 26. My breast is still very tender and still feel like I have a tennis ball under my armpit and it is still numb. How long does this last? Thanks!!

Hi Kendra..my diagnosis was pretty similar to your. I had DCIS, lumpectomy Nov 2013 and found out they didn't get clean margins. Had mastectomy Jan 13, 2013. No radiation or chemo. I also was very tender for several weeks after the lumpectomy, just started feeling better about the time my mastectomy was scheduled. It will get better, give it time.

Ouch! It does take a while! I kept a heart shape pillow under my arm for quite awhile!

Mine was similar--surgery was October 2011 and I'm still tight and sometimes a quick pain shoots through the area where tumor was removed. I was really sore for a few months after

I had a unilateral mastectomy on 15Feb and my chest is still totally numb from my breast bone through my axilla. Nerves are really small and hard to see so they can get severed when doing surgery and nerves do not regrow.

Hi Kendra, have you been back to your surgeon since you felt like the tennis ball is under your arm? It could be fluid build up, just checking. My lumpectomy was pretty small and I felt better in a weekend two, but did have fluid drained from under my arm. Just checking, hope you have relief soon.
