    dcis is stage 0, or pre cancer. dcis can be ductal or lobular. some docs now consider dcis cancer and others pre cancer. listen to your intuition, get 2nd opinion if you aren't happy with what your doc has told you so far.

That is why some call it precancer, but don't let that fool you into thinking it is not cancer. It is.

      Continue from above comment, before mastectomy surgery did test on lymph nodes as a precaution dr said it was highly unlikely that they find anything ,once lymph nodes test were done they found cancer in one of the three but removed all three as precaution now I will meet with BC to discuss chemo, had I done lumpectomy w rads I may have not found other cancer cells early enough before they had spread further!

    Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is the most common NON invasive breast cancer! Ductal means is in the milk ducts. In situ, or encapsulated, means the tumor is in it's early stages, inside it's capsule. Better to understand is like a bubble that didn't rupture yet so the tissue around is, probably, contaminated!

      I was also diagnosed with DCIS and then they found a 3cm mass in same breast which they biopsied. They told me the mass is still DCIS. How is that possible? They did say they thought it was invasive.

      you can have DCIS in several different ducts at the same time.
