Mary foti, so true! I definately enjoy not having a period..or so I will enjoy it! It is still new and fresh to me, as I had my last one mid July, and hysterectomy onmjuly 30th! It wasn't so bad, still healing..I agree the mastectomy was worse. It's hard to believe I won't be getting a period from August on. Like you said..for life! That is reason to smile. Thanks for the kind wishes, hope you are doing well!

The same thing happened to me at age 44. It's miserable, isn't it? Be careful about taking homeopathic or over the counter supplements if your cancer has any estrogen receptor positive markers. For example, soy and Black Cohosh can mimic estrogen which is like junk food for ereceptor positive cancers!

I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago at 41, and the side effects lasted about a year. Once that was over, it was great! I went through depression, hot flashes and a bad temper. It helps to have someone who supports and puts up with you during this time! I don't know what I would have done without my husband. Keep your chin up and remember, NO MORE PERIODS! Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sandra, I also had breast cancer at 41 and a total hysterectomy. I am BRCA2 . I thought the mastectomy process was much worse than the hysterectomy. I LOVE NOT HAVING PERIODS!!! Greatest (and one of the only) benefit of going through all this crap. I am taking Arimidex and have hot flashes and joint pain. Not sure of the hot flashes are from menopause or Armidex - probably both. Anyway, I hope you recover quickly. Whenever I want to complain about menopause, I remind myself I am period-free for life and then I smile!

Talk to your dr... There are some meds (Effexor, and some others) they might prescribe for you. Also some over the counter they can recommend. There are menopause sections in drug stores and in health food/ vitamin stores! Good luck!
