My 5th year was up on 1July on Letrozole. I will be asking my doctor about it in a couple of weeks. If they can give me a good reason to continue another 5 years I will if not I just may go off of it. My PCP has already told me if I'm taken off it he will discontinue the med. I take for Osteopenia, he's already cut the dosage in half since my bone mass has improved.

She recommended a Breast Cancer Index test; it shows if I can come off of it or go another 5 years. I fit the criteria; early stage (1a) and lymph node negative but my tumor was pretty aggressive so this test will help. They use a piece of the original tumor (thankfully there is still some since I did the OncoType DX test 5 years ago to see if I needed chemo.) I'll keep you posted and good luck with going off of it.

The test results indicated a very low risk of recurrence (5.7%) and 5 more years would not benefit me so I was taken off the Letrozole.

Paula, ask your doctor about the Breast Cancer Index test. As my ARNP said it's no guarantee it won't recur but I like my odds against it doing that are in my favor.

Saw my doctor this week, tried all meds with side effects so no more all done and will now see oncologist just 1 x year ... YEAH !!..... was told some meds better than no meds but can’t do the 10 year plan. Quality of life more important now.

I am almost thinking the Letrozole was causing my blood pressure to come up some even with being on meds. for several years as since I went off of it the numbers have dropped.

Betti I really like how you rocking that color hair. I think I might experiment. After breast cancer we can do anything within reason. At least that’s how I feel.

2 years ago I had a pink mohawk, last year totally purple, and this year (current picture) pink on top with 2 shades of purple on the bottom. I do it for my local Relay for Life walks.

Are you having any bad side effects from it?

I haven't had any real side effects from it. I had Osteopenia before my BC diagnosis and it got somewhat worse with the Letrozole but has improved the last couple of years with taking a generic Fosamax.
